Recovery of Database 'xxx' (Complete in 68,395 more seconds)

I'm having a problem with a SQL Server. Every time I stop and restart the
SQL Server service I get a message similar to this one. What do I have to
do to force checkpoints during the load process? ThanksP.S. - The message is coming up in the Application Event Log during the
recovery process after I start the server. I found a quote on the MS
Website stating I "may need to 'Troubleshoot the Recovery Process'", but I
can't find anything more specific than that. Can someone point me in the
right direction? Thanks

>|||Today was the first time we've stopped this SQL Server since we started
loading it. The load was completed. No, I haven't changed the recovery
interval; I'll take a look at it today. What setting would you recommend?

Recovering Database

I am doing a point in time recover of a database. I point to the backup and
trans logs and begin the recovery. It says (Loading database) and it
starts.. It goes through the backup then applies all the translogs. When
it gets to the end it says, DATABASE RESTORE HAS COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY. But
when I go to the database, it is still at a status of LOADING. How do I
bring the database online? Thanks

You may not have requested that SQL Server run the recovery process after
the last log was loaded in.
From the Query Analyzer, try:
RESTORE DATABASE <name of db> WITH RECOVERY
(Note that you don't need to specify any backup files, as these have already
been loaded. The WITH RECOVERY is the important part.)

question.. I was wondering if you had any insite on it..
I had a hardware crash where my Datafile got corrupted but my Logfile was on
another array of disks so it was fine. Every two hours, I do a backup of my
Transaction Log. When my hardware crashed, it had be awhile since the last
Transaction log backup. Can I do a restore to a point it time. I can not
backup my current logfile because it has to be attached to a datafile an
online in order to be backed up. I tried to restore an old COLD backup of my
datafile and attach the logfile to it to try to back it up and that did not
work.. Any help would be appreciated. I need to recover to the point of
hardware failure..

There is another connection using the DB, put it into single user mode
(Right click on it and select properties)

>>|||That did it.. Thanks.. Now I got my database back to the last good Translog
that was backed up.. Now I am going to try to see if I can use the Online
Translog that was part of the database when it crashed to see if I can
restore to the point of failure..

No, the transaction log is no good to you as the sequences do not agree
anymore between the log and the DB.
Kiss that data good bye.
The fast that your drive crashed and it took your DB's along with it, how
about getting some RAID?

then issued a Backup Logfile command and it backed it up. I then used that
logfile backup to restore the database to the time the database crashed..

when you had "the old datafile with the current logfile"?.
I'm getting the following error when trying to backup the transaction log
file:

recover adodb::_ConnectionPtr

Most of the the time my connection is created and closed fine.

However, sometimes I get Connection failures (these happen often because I am connecting to the server using a VPN connection). Once I get the connection failure, sometimes I cannot successfully recreate the connection until I kill the application and restart it. Below is my open and release code. I call release anytime the connection fails or a stored procedure fails. If you see anything wrong with it the code below that would prevent the connection from recovering please let me know.

To see whether this might be related to OLEDB session pooling you can try disabling it by adding
"OLE DB Services=-2" to your connection string. Depending on what the result is we could discuss further steps.

recover a pdf via Web services

Hi,

It's the first time that I use reporting services and web servcies. And I have some problems.

I have severals reporting services. These reports are simple text with some data. I have to call these reports by web services. The report have to receive a int as parameter.

And the report has to return a pdf and give it to the web service.

Can you help me please?

Recordset Destination

Every time I try to us a recordset destination for error output, I have problems with setting the "VariableName" field. Is this a known issue? Or am I just doing something wrong?

Can you elaborate on what the problem is? An error message would be helpful.

My only tip based on what you have said is make sure that the type of the variable to which you are assigning the recordset is "Object".

Pretty simple and I figured it was something like this. I didn't realize I needed a "variable" to hold onto my recordset.

Jim|||You need to create a variable by providing a name, of type object and also the scope of the variable. Check your object type.

Records newer than 90 minutes (smalldatetime)

Hi,

I have a table in SQLServer2000 where e.g. the actual time is insert for
every record (smalldatetime). But how do I select every records newer
than 90 minutes?

Hi Ross,

As far as I know, that index won't be used in your query, since the
time_column is embedded in a function call. You'd have to have the
time_column all by itself at one side of a comparison operator (like in my
query) for the index to be useful.

Thank you for clarifying my fuzzy thinking, Hugo. Your query is much better
in that respect.

Recording the time

Can anyone tell me if there is a data type used in oracle for recording the time of an event. The SQL books I have read mention the TIME data type but this is not recognised in oracle.
I have tried the timestamp but I require the time and date in separate columns?At least in my opinion, storing the time and date in different columns is an extraordinarily bad idea. They are both parts of the same thing (a temporal data type), and storing them as two columns makes as much sense as storing money as dollars in one int and the cents in another int... It certainly can be done, but it is a fundamentally bad idea.

If you insist on doing things the hard way, Oracle will gladly let you. Create two separate timestamp columns. Store the date in one of the columns, and the time in the other. Or store both of them in one column, and use the time manipulation functions to extract just the time or date when you only need one of them.

or do you mean "this event occurs at 3:30 pm every day"?

if the former, use an INTERVAL

if the latter, use DATE (which stores date and time) and ignore the date portion

Is there any way i can map changes between databases at different time. Lets say i have created a backup on 17 March 2004. I come back to the server on 17 April 2004 (a month later) and now i need to know what has changed between this two dates. Is there
any way i can compare a backup to the database to get the changes ?
