recovery question
I have a full backup of a sql datbase on 6/27
Is it possible to recover the data on 6/26 without seeing the changes on
6/27?

If the database is in Full recovery mode, and you have all the log
backups from 4/27 through 6/26, then you can restore the 4/27 database
backup and apply all the log up to the point you want to stop
(point-in-time recover).
Otherwise, no.

if you have full recovery turned on, and all the required LOG backups,
you can use "STOPAT" to do a point-in-time restore. If you have not run
a backup of the TLOG that should be the first thing you do.

Recovery of Suspect Database
SQL Server won't let me dbcc checkdb, restore datbase with recovery or even back up the log file (DB recovery mode is SIMPLE). After running sp_resetstatus and restarting SQL Server, a new error log and dump file are generated and the database is reset to Suspect. A two-day-old backup is available and I can replace all the data by reimporting the missing days, but this will take days and I'm hoping to be able to recover the existing DB.
A couple of snippets from the error log are below. I also have a 18+ MB dump file. What's the best approach to fixing this

You can set the status of your DB to -32768 which is emergency mode. This

Recovery of Suspect Database
I would like to recover this if possible. Our IT group did an unexpected re
boot of the server during a data import process implemented in multiple nest
ed DTS packages. After the
reboot, the database was marked as Suspect.
SQL Server won't let me dbcc checkdb, restore datbase with recovery or even
back up the log file (DB recovery mode is SIMPLE). After running sp_resetsta
tus and restarting SQL Server, a new error log and dump file are generated a
nd the database is reset to
Suspect. A two-day-old backup is available and I can replace all the data by
reimporting the missing days, but this will take days and I'm hoping to be
able to recover the existing DB.
A couple of snippets from the error log are below. I also have a 18+ MB dump
file. What's the best approach to fixing this?

Recovery of dropped data that was never back up
Hi
I am trying to recover a set of tables with data that was dropped. This data was not backed up. Please advice, is there any way this data can be recovered.
With SQL, the way to go back in time is to restore backups. You really can't recover dropped tables without any backups.
Depending on how valuable and critical the information is (which begs the obvious question of why it wasn't backed up if it was valuable), you may be able to do some forensic data mining on the files themselves. The data is not actually overwritten, just marked as free mujch as the filesystem does. So as long as the space has not been reused, there may still be information out there. SQL has no utilities for this, however.
You can either examine the raw files with a hex editor, or someone may know of a 3rd-party utility to make it slightly easier. None of this is of course supported.

Recovery of a Table From SQL SERVER 2000
Unfortunately a table is Deleted by me from my database.
Now How I can Recover that
I have no data and structure of that table Now.
It Was Very IMP. Table .
So Plz Help.......
the only option that comes to my mind is to restore the latest backup which was taken before the table was deleted.....it will definitely contain the datas you need........but b4 that take a backup of your db now so that if required you can restore from this backup......thanx|||
You 'may be able to recover the data from the log files (assuming you have a FULL recovery model in place) by using one of the third party Log exploration tools.
I suggest exploring Lumigent's Log Explorer, or ApexSQL's Log tools. I think that fully functional evaluation copies are available online.

"Got Backup?"
If you're against restoring from your last good backup for some reason, then
Google up on suspect databases. There are "unofficial" ways to reset
suspect databases. They're not 100% though, and you may end up having to
restore from backup anyway.

Server into thinking the database is no longer suspect. As I mentioned, my
good buddies Larry Page and Sergey Brin have a ton of information on it over
at their website (GOOGLE.COM).
If you do get it to work, then I would recommend immediately copying
everything to a NEW database and immediately starting to take daily BACKUPS
so you don't have to go through this again.

It's them high-falutin' words I done heard the DBA's slangin' around the
uther day :)
On the plus side, nothing makes you start thinking about backups like losing
(or almost losing) a bunch of critical data because you didn't bother
backing it up in the first place :)

Recovery from Metabase corruption
I've spent most of the day trying to recover my team foundation server from a metabase corruption (no I had not backed it up).
To date I've had to reinstall IIS,uninstall reporting services and reinstall that as well as sts and the other nonsense.
Right now the TFS installer gets most of the way through (for the 10th ) time and reports that it can't access report server.
In IIS http://localhost/reports/home.aspx I get a message
So it's possibly correct that Report server is not running. Now whilst I find lots of stuff which tells me how to enable 'Scale-out deployment' I find none which tells me how to disable it (and I don't want to install enterprise edition).
I have reloaded the report server keys which I saved before embarking on this foolishness and that seemed to get me a bit further forward. The only other thing I did was to set the database in the report server configurator (to the local db with ReportServer. It was originally blank).
Please help!
Thanks
Iain
Moved to Reporting. Hopefully someone here can help.

sqlRecovery from Delete statement using the transaction logs
found out it was the wrong database. Can you rollback the
delete statements and recover the data from the
transaction logs?
I assume you didn't protect the delete with BEGIN TRAN? If you did, just do ROLLBACK.
Are you performing regular transaction log backups? Is database in full or bulk logged recovery
mode? If answers to these questions are "no", you will probably need to go to your most recent
backup or just accept the data loss. If answers are "yes", you *might* be in better shape.
Anyhow, I suggest you read my article on the topic at:

You'll have to use a log reader tool from Lumigent or LogPi. Otherwise,
you need to restore from a backup. If the table is static, you may be
able to restore the database to another (test) server and use DTS to
copy the table.
Some backup/recovery tools like our LiteSpeed product offer object level
recovery.

Too late now but it's a good idea to bracket your ad-hoc DML statements
with BEGIN TRAN ... ROLLBACK TRAN until you are sure that the
modification is correct. Also a good idea to have a current backup of
course :-)

Hi Robert,
You can't rollback after committing the transaction.
Besides the options posted by David and David, the might be one more
option for you: If your database is in full recovery mode, you can use
point in time recovery to restore yoour database to the point in time just
before you ran the unintended deletes. This will of course destroy ALL
modifications since that time, so it may or may not be usefull.
Best, Hugo

Recovery from a database Image
First...this isn't a production recover issue.
I have a image of my hard drive that includes all my sql server databases
"in the raw". I suffered a hard disk crash and have reinstalled SQL Server
etc...How can I get these databases back. I tried just copying the two data
files from the "Data" directory off my backup onto the new SQL Server
install...but no cigar.
Surely there is a way to do this.

You can try to attach each database using sp_attach_db (or the Enterprise
Manager attach). This might not work if the databases weren't cleanly
detached, though. See the Books Online for more information.
Hope this helps.

|||You might also
1. Open a call to MS PSS, maybe they have some magic ( but I doubt you'll be
able to recover.) Try them anyway, only $250
2. When you get past all of this, set up a good database maintenance plan to
backup and maintain your databases..
Good luck friend!
